High School Coach Comments: Liz Drennan burst on the scene this season, starting at the Varsity level as a freshman. Liz immediately gained the respect and affection of her teammates, so much so that her teammates love being on her team in practice because it is usually the team that wins the drill! Liz played much of the season as an outside defender in a zonal system. However, at times she played as a marking back, and was very effective at shutting down our opponents’ top offensive threats. Additionally, Liz played both holding center mid as well as some outside mid for us, and even played one game at forward. Liz is one of the most versatile players I have ever coached. She can play effectively at just about any position on the field, and excels in most areas. She is fearless on the field and is an outstanding ball-winner, and plays very physically, but not emotionally. Liz shines at keeping her composure, yet still playing at a very competitive level. Liz has probably been our most consistent player this spring, while being extremely versatile and able to play a variety of necessary roles. Liz is a skilled finisher and passer, and displays solid technical skills with both feet. She has an accurate and powerful shot from either foot and exhibits excellent speed. Liz is very small in stature, but plays big. She uses her size to her advantage, often working her way through traffic successfully. Liz has tremendous work ethic and will continue to improve in all areas. It is possible she will play more as a midfielder in the future, but due to her success this season as a defender, I know that Liz will be a major contributor for us somewhere on the field in the coming years. |
